Populah?

Oh my, I went and got really popular overnight. I wrote an entry (below) yesterday and it got picked up by a journalist who quoted me and now all of you international visitors are reading Fashiontweet. My stats have been pretty good and all, but more readers are always welcome…

I was thinking I could be all cool and aloof, but why? I’m totally excited about it. Thank you Gene Byrd.

This is the link to the story that quotes mine http://www.nationalledger.com/artman/publish/article_272623503.shtml

I was multitasking like a good little girl this morning. Blowdrying my hair and flicking through one of my favourite dutch fashion magazines. I came across a couple of pictures of Natasha Khan, a british singer. A supposed new IT girl. . .

'It' girl Natasha Khan
Whilst I cannot comment on her music as I have not listened to it, the sight of her and her ‘IT girl’ status got me thinking about this pre-occupation the media seems to have with what is considered hip and trendy (i.e. Kate Moss and followers)

I find it truly baffling. Why would we want to encourage people to dress like this? I am totally for diversity and applaud people that I come across that truly seem to have this hip thing down. But like many trends you see so many people around town are trying to look like something they are not. You just want to tell them enough already, give up and dress classically stylish.

Let’s suggest to dress timelessly gorgeous, like Ivanka Trump. She’s young, gorgeous, has style and dresses appropriately for her age.

Good news to most women out there. It seems that size zero is on its way out. Well it’s about time isnt it.  Even Karl Lagerfeld turned some models away from his show stating they looked like third world girls that didn’t eat. I have a feeling it has to do with the current economic down turn. People want to be comforted in a way. Clothes will look increasinly comfortable and so will the girls wearing them. Funny how a rounder woman invokes this feeling of a warmer personality.

Good afternoon, what a wonderful day it is.

Guess who wore these boots on a recent visit to Slovakia? (hint, she loves horses)

I have been coming across some interesting choices of what people must think is appropriate (office) work atire.

Mostly I am amazed by:

Very short skirts, the kind of short that looks cute on a 5 year old. I have seen these a lot lately, worn with high boots or even ugg boots. Sure you can have great legs, but why not wear a cute pencil skirt and leave something to the imagination…

Leggins with long-ish sweaters, you need to have a hard butt to carry this look anyway, and I really don’t think you want to wear it to the office, usually the sweater kind of gets stuck on (in) your butt and it just looks a little too casual

Casual, summer season clothes. I continue to see a lot of linen trousers or white jeans. White jeans can work only if they are of the ‘thicker’ variety and if they don’t seem to be just a leftover of your summer wardrobe.

Appropriate work atire??

Appropriate work atire??

Some examples, left to right:

  1. very short skirt with ugg boots, worn turned down, so the fur shows
  2. a summer skirt in October… just because you add black opaque tights and boots doesn’t make it a winter skirt. Give your summer clothes a break, they need it…
  3. another very short skirt, plus I’m pretty sure she is not a natural ginger i.e. bottle red hair
  4. hey, where have we seen thos turned down ugg boots before? judging by the length of her coat and no skirt in sight I’m pretty sure this is another example of … lets say it together: a very short skirt
  5. poor thing, wearing 3 quarter length pants, showing some skin and then a nice tan coloured panty hose sock

ps, am watching Tina Turner on Oprah, now she is ‘allowed’ to wear 3 quarter length leggings, I love her

ps2, day 16 and still abstinent from shopping :))

What I think: I am voting for Obama so I don’t need to choose, but only silly people would think that is a lot of money on that level of celebrity.

I could really get into a rant about it and encourage the Republicans to spend even more on her. She needs coaching, and a hair and make up make over and lots of clothes. After all republicans think women are dolls anyway. Why are they saying they are upset with that? They choose a doll and then don’t want to dress her. Typical misogynist thinking.

Not only that, I would be surprised if there was less than that a month spent for her or for McCain for that matter. No one is talking about his make up and GQ is absolutely trashing his tailor. Totally bad armholes to deal with his disability. The guy is 72 and his tailor is probably 18 and knows nothing of style and finesse.

So there.

Apologees for the non writing of the past few weeks, fashiontweet has gone cold turkey and needed some time off from writing as well.

Yes you read correctly, cold turkey, that means no shopping for clothes, shoes, make up etc for the foreseeable future (I have set myself a specific goal but I am not willing to share it yet). . .  I’m on day 13

The first few days were particularly lousy, it’s hard to explain all the feelings I have surrounding shopping. It’s fine to purchase items such as food and transportation, stuff like that. When it comes to the luxury items though, it becomes a different story. I actually experienced some withdrawal type physical and psychological feelings. My poor boyfriend got an earful of my complaining, but am glad to report the worst seems to be behind me.

When the shopping stops being fun and the clothes are just hanging in your closet you realise something’s up. I have set myself some goals during this time of abstinence, some of my own and some were suggested to me by someone very dear to me.

  • actually wear every new piece of clothing I’ve bought - done
  • organise my closet so I can see what I own (this is a big one for me as I tend to forget about certain items, even the recent stuff) - done
  • organise all my accessories - almost all done, have organised the jewelry but haven’t done all my scarves yet
  • organise my make up, get rid of old stuff, clean the box I keep it in - done

Next to the above accomplishments I am enjoying figuring out what to wear the night before, trying toput together some new outfits that I haven’t worn before.  It’s nice to bring back the enjoyment of what fashion, make up and accessories mean to me.

So there you have it, no shopping reports from me for a while, but I will be writing regularly again and have already thought of a subject I need to research tomorrow.

Love, fashiontweet

shop much?

Here it goes. I owe you guys a report on my recent shopping trips.

1. A new wintercoat, its a Moncler and I adore it, dark brown with a fur trimmed hood. Very warm so great if you use public transportation to get to work like I do. It’s not cheap but I am pretty sure it will last a good few years

2. Black sweater with bat sleeves, its roomy and great, with a deep v neck which makes it kind of sexy and not just any black sweater. It’s Massimo Dutti, nearest stores in Belgium or the UK

3. Green shirt with little green buttons. I love this colour but I usually don’t wear colour so this is like a test. Got it at Banana Republic in London, very reasonably prices, as were all the other items that I got there.

So there you have it, looking at the above, I think it would be wise to stop shopping for a while huh, feeling a little guilty but oh so happy with all these gorgeous items

striggings

Came across these leg warmers today, Falke seems to call them striggings… wtf? I don’t think anyone should wear legwarmers outside of a dance studio but I guess when you call them striggings it’s ok???

Will you look at this? its three of my favourite celebrities on one sofa:
sylvie, keiser karl and salma!
sylvie, kaiser karl and salma!
I’m not sure about what Salma is wearing but I am sure it has something to do with the fact that this is a german game show… Kaiser Karl is wearing his uniform and Sylvie is wearing some gold odd looking frock. Sylvie has been put down by a lot of people in the dutch media but I believe she is one of the few dutch celebrities that always looks pulled together! so there
